Role Overview

The AS400 Developer role requires a seasoned individual with 3–5 years of experience in AS/400 development. The primary responsibility is to design, develop, maintain, and support applications on the AS/400 platform. This role demands strong expertise in RPG programming, CL, DB2/400, and system integration. As part of the role, the developer will ensure that applications meet business requirements efficiently while maintaining high coding standards and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications on the IBM i / AS400 platform.
• Develop and maintain programs utilizing RPG, RPGLE, CL, and SQL.
• Work with DB2/400 for data manipulation, query optimization, and reporting.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely solutions to maintain operational efficiency.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices in coding standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, QA, and infrastructure personnel, to ensure project success.
• Support system enhancements, upgrades, and performance tuning for optimal application efficiency.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for applications and processes to ensure proper knowledge transfer.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in AS400 / IBM i development.

• Knowledge of file handling (PF, LF, DSPF, PRTF).
• Experience in debugging and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with source control and change management tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with API integration or web services on AS400.
• Knowledge of modernization tools or integration with other platforms.
• Exposure to Agile development methodology.
• Understanding of EDI or legacy system integration.
