Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager at SquareShift, you will lead a multi-pod team of senior engineers, extending across cloud, data, and AI/ML practices. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of delivery, fostering engineering health, and supporting the growth of individuals across multiple concurrent client engagements, typically including GCP data platform builds, Looker/BI migrations, and Elasticsearch/observability work. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will not just manage but actively engage in coaching and mentoring your team members through challenging problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivery Management: Oversee 15–25 engineers across 2–4 concurrent engagements, ensuring a balance between client commitments and team growth. Conduct weekly delivery reviews utilizing engineering metrics related to delivery quality and health.
• Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain high engineering standards across all teams, including code review protocols and production readiness checklists, while also driving project post-mortem analyses to improve future outcomes.
• People Management: Directly manage 8–12 senior engineers, conducting one-on-ones and performance evaluations, while promoting an engineering culture through various initiatives such as tech talks and bootcamps.

Tech Stack

• Cloud Platform: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, Cloud Run, Kubernetes (GKE), Vertex AI.
• Data Engineering: Looker/LookML, Airflow, Dataflow, dbt.
• Observability Tools: Elasticsearch, OpenSearch.
• Development Practices: CI/CD practices, production software delivery protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 8+ years building and operating production software, with at least 3 years managing engineers (mix of IC and management is acceptable).
• Technical Skills: Hands-on technical depth in at least two of the following:
  • Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Run, GKE/Kubernetes, Vertex AI)
  • Looker/LookML
  • Elasticsearch/OpenSearch
  • Modern data engineering (Airflow/Dataflow/dbt)
  • Production AI/ML systems.
• Deployment Knowledge: Working fluency with container and deployment patterns on GCP.
• Project Management: Track record of shipping client engagements end-to-end including signed-off production go-lives.
• Communication Skills: Strong written communication for clean status updates, architecture rationales, and client communications.
• Consulting Adaptability: Comfortable in ambiguity and re-planning as required by consulting work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience with agentic AI patterns (tool-use, RAG, multi-agent orchestration).
• Background in BI migrations (e.g., Tableau to Looker).
• Observability or SIEM delivery experience on the Elastic Stack.
• Prior consulting or services-firm experience.
