Role Overview

The Hardware Design Engineer specializing in Battery Management Systems (BMS) is a pivotal role that involves the design and development of sophisticated battery management systems for high-voltage applications. This crucial position is responsible for shaping the electrical architecture of BMS, leading circuit design initiatives, and ensuring compliance with a rigorous engineering development process. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, creativity, and collaborative skills to achieve design excellence while meeting safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct end-to-end electrical design of automotive BMS, focusing on high-voltage monitoring, cell balancing, protection circuits, and communication protocols including CAN, LIN, and SPI.
• Develop and document BMS electrical architecture in alignment with vehicle requirements and defined safety goals.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to define system specifications and performance metrics.
• Lead hardware components development for the BMS, including printed circuit boards (PCBs), microcontrollers, and associated analog and digital circuits.
• Generate detailed schematics and engage in component selection, coordinating with PCB layout designers to ensure the reliability and functionality of BMS hardware products.
• Build and rigorously test hardware prototypes, ensuring compliance with performance benchmarks and safety specifications, making continuous design enhancements as required.
• Design and integrate monitoring circuits to accurately measure parameters such as voltage, current, temperature, and state of charge for effective battery management.
• Uphold adherence to pertinent safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 62133) and perform comprehensive safety analyses.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including software engineers and quality assurance teams—to facilitate seamless integration of the BMS into the overall energy storage system.
• Maintain thorough design documentation, encompassing specifications, test plans, DFMEA, WCCA, and reports.
• Troubleshoot hardware-related issues proactively and implement necessary improvements to optimize BMS performance.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices to continually refine BMS designs.
• Adhere to relevant federal and state regulations while complying with all company policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned and ensure predictable attendance.
