Role Overview

We are seeking a Head of Pipeline who will play a crucial role in overseeing the architecture, development, deployment, and maintenance of our VFX pipeline. This full-time, permanent position is primarily based out of Chennai, India, but we are open to considering candidates from other locations within India. The Head of Pipeline will collaborate closely with the CEO and CIO to align the pipeline strategy with the studio’s creative and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, implementation, and long-term roadmap of the studio's VFX pipeline, ensuring that the tools developed are artist-friendly, scalable, and stable.
• Design and oversee change management initiatives to onboard users across all delivery workflows effectively.
• Manage the department budget and resource allocation, balancing long-term projects with short-term support demands.
• Mentor and manage a diverse team comprising Pipeline TDs, Pipeline Developers, and a Product Manager/Lead Pipeline TD, ensuring timely software deliveries.
• Serve as a key technical liaison during active shows, collaborating with VFX Supervisors and creative leadership to troubleshoot issues and drive rapid decision-making on pipeline adjustments.
• Promote a strong culture of user experience within the pipeline team, enabling intuitive artist-facing tools that minimize friction and manual overhead.
• Assess and implement modern open-source technologies alongside commercial DCCs to keep the studio's infrastructure competitive.
• Establish software engineering standards, continuous delivery practices, code review protocols, and robust data management lifecycle strategies.

• 10-12 years of experience in the VFX industry.
• 5-7 years in a leadership or supervisory role within the pipeline department.
• Strong technical expertise in pipeline development using Python, C++, and Qt/PySide.
• Proficiency with Git and standard VFX DCCs (such as Nuke, Maya, Houdini).
• Experience with asset management systems and core APIs.
• Understanding of open-source pipeline frameworks, preferably AYON/OpenPype.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, capable of building trust with diverse teams.
