Founded in 2020 by IIT-BHU graduates Akash Gupta, Abhinav Roy, and Ankit Joshi, the company specializes in designing and manufacturing advanced lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage applications. Its proprietary technologies include Direct Contact Liquid Cooling (DCLC) thermal management, integrated cell-to-pack (CTP) architecture, and custom-engineered in-house battery management systems. Clean Electric is rapidly scaling across 2W and 3W segments, with plans to enter 4W and commercial vehicles. The team comprises professionals from IITs, IIMs, and industry experts, backed by premier Indian venture capital firms.

Role Overview

This is a full-time on-site position based in Pune, India. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for lithium-ion battery systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, thermal, and manufacturing engineers to create robust, manufacturable designs that meet performance, safety, and cost targets. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with plastic molding parts and sheet metal components, along with a strong understanding of Li-Ion battery system design.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for Li-Ion battery systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for plastic molded parts, sheet metal components including enclosures, brackets, and connectors.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, thermal engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure integrated and manufacturable designs.
• Perform tolerance analysis and material selection for plastic components to ensure durability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
• Utilize CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo) to develop and refine mechanical designs from concept to production.
• Conduct design reviews and provide technical feedback to optimize product performance and manufacturability.
• Support prototype development, testing, and validation of Li-Ion battery designs, ensuring alignment with project timelines and quality standards.
• Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to optimize design for injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and other manufacturing methods.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOMs), engineering change notices, and technical reports.
• Apply DFM, DFA, and DFMEA principles throughout the design lifecycle to ensure efficient production and assembly.

Tech Stack

• CAD Tools: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo (or similar parametric modeling software)
• Simulation/Analysis: FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation) for structural and thermal analysis
• Design Methodologies: DFM, DFA, DFMEA, tolerance stack-up analysis
• Materials Knowledge: Plastic materials (e.g., ABS, PC, Nylon), sheet metal (steel, aluminum), injection molding, and tooling design
• Battery-Specific: Understanding of Li-Ion cell formats (cylindrical, prismatic, pouch), thermal management, vibration, and shock requirements
• Collaboration Tools: Standard office suite, PLM/PDM systems for document control

Location: Near Chakan, Pune, India (on-site)

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

• 2-4 years of experience in mechanical design, specifically in Li-Ion battery systems, plastic molding, and sheet metal part design.

Skills

• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or similar).
• Strong knowledge of plastic materials, sheet metal design, injection molding processes, and tooling design.
• Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFA (Design for Assembly), and DFMEA principles.
• Understanding of thermal management, vibration, and shock requirements for battery systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable designs.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the battery, automotive, or consumer electronics industries.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards and certifications related to Li-Ion battery safety and performance.
• Familiarity with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and simulation tools.

Additional Requirements

• Willingness to work from office (Pune) on a full-time basis and relocate to Pune if not currently residing.
• Comfortable with alternate 6-day working (2nd and 4th Saturday off).
• Ability to join within a reasonable timeframe (weeks).
