Role Overview

As a Senior Technical Content Development Engineer, you will design and build the most technically demanding interview questions used by Karat to evaluate software engineering candidates. This is not a traditional software engineering role—you won’t be building or maintaining production systems. Instead, you’ll focus solely on creating complex, multi-step engineering scenarios, debugging challenges, and edge cases that form the highest tier of our interview content. You’ll use modern AI-assisted development tools to construct, test, and validate these problems and their reference solutions, ensuring technical accuracy and fairness. This role requires a schedule overlapping with U.S. business hours and is open only to candidates residing in Bengaluru. You will collaborate closely with the Content Architecture team on complex format and standards decisions, analyze candidate performance data, and lead peer reviews to uphold quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build advanced technical interview content, including complex coding exercises, debugging challenges, and real-world engineering scenarios at the highest difficulty tier.
• Write and test interview content across multiple programming languages, taking on the technically hardest problems, including escalations from other engineers.
• Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate content creation while applying advanced engineering judgment to maintain accuracy at higher complexity.
• Lead peer reviews of interview content, providing technical feedback and setting the quality bar for complex material.
• Diagnose and resolve issues with underperforming content, using candidate performance data, interviewer feedback, and content correction requests, especially when root causes are not obvious.
• Partner with Content Architecture on complex format decisions and help raise the technical bar for new content.
• Help shape development standards, templates, and documentation for the team, with a particular focus on difficulty calibration.

• Testing frameworks (e.g., pytest, JUnit, Mocha)
• Debugging and code review tools (e.g., gdb, Chrome DevTools, Git-based review platforms)
• Cloud-based development environments and remote collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Zoom, Google Workspace)

4+ years of professional software engineering experience (post-academic, post-internship), with demonstrated work on complex systems or technically demanding problems. Strong software engineering fundamentals including debugging, testing, and reviewing code. Experience giving technical feedback to other engineers. Experience using AI-assisted development tools (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist, or similar). Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Experience working remotely on global, distributed teams, with availability during U.S. business hours. Must reside in Bengaluru (Bangalore).
