Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer to join the AI team, specifically focused on data infrastructure and acquisition. This role is critical for building and scaling the high-quality datasets required to train our next-generation models. You will own the data pipeline end-to-end, from discovering and ingesting new audio sources to managing cloud infrastructure at petabyte scale. You will work closely with research scientists to optimize cost, throughput, and data quality, directly impacting the performance of our AI models. This position offers a unique blend of infrastructure engineering, data engineering, and collaboration with world-class AI researchers.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Acquisition: Proactively identify and scrape new audio data sources, integrating them into the ingestion pipeline.
• Infrastructure Management: Operate and extend the cloud infrastructure for the ingestion pipeline, currently on GCP managed via Terraform. Ensure reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Collaboration with Scientists: Work closely with AI research scientists to shift the cost/throughput/quality frontier, delivering richer data at larger scale and lower cost for next-generation models.
• Roadmap Contribution: Collaborate with AI team leadership to define the dataset roadmap that powers Speechify's consumer and enterprise products.
• Process Optimization: Improve workflows for large-scale data processing, including web crawling, deduplication, and quality filtering.

The role involves working extensively with cloud-native tools and building scalable, automated data pipelines.

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience in software development.
• Proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux environments.
• Proficiency in Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and professional experience with at least one major Cloud Provider (we use GCP).
• Experience with web crawlers, large-scale data processing workflows is a plus.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
