Role Overview The Technical Lead – Design Thinking & Methodology (DTM) will be based at the Centre of Excellence in Design (D‑CoE) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. This is a full‑time, contract position responsible for planning, delivering, and overseeing training programmes in Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology. The role involves teaching structured design processes, mentoring multidisciplinary teams, supervising design projects, and coordinating technical programmes focused on innovation, product development, and real‑world engineering problem‑solving. The ideal candidate will guide participants through the complete design journey—from problem identification and user research to prototyping, simulation, and final design delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Teaching, Training & Curriculum Execution

  • Design and deliver structured training modules in Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology.
  • Deliver lectures on design principles, user‑centered design, engineering problem‑solving, innovation, and product development.
  • Conduct hands‑on workshops in offline, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Train participants in structured design tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
  • Adapt technical content for learners from engineering, design, and multidisciplinary backgrounds.
  • Lead project‑based learning activities throughout the programme.

• Intern & Project Supervision

  • Mentor interns and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Guide participants working on product design, engineering design, innovation, and technology‑development projects.
  • Review project requirements, concepts, prototypes, simulations, and final design outputs.
  • Provide technical and methodological feedback throughout the project lifecycle.

• Collaboration & Outreach

  • Collaborate with faculty members, programme coordinators, researchers, and technical staff.
  • Engage with academic institutions, industry experts, startups, and innovation partners.
  • Support outreach programmes, workshops, training initiatives, and capacity‑building activities.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of D‑CoE programmes.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the organisation.

• Product Development Tools: Product Design, Engineering Design, Requirements Engineering, Ideation & Concept Generation, Prototyping & Simulation.
• Digital Tools: Generative AI tools for engineering design, ideation, research, and design documentation (e.g., ChatGPT, DALL·E, Midjourney, or equivalents), CAD/CAE software (implied), simulation platforms, and collaboration platforms (e.g., Miro, Figma, Jira).
• Learning Platforms: LMS, video conferencing tools for hybrid/online workshops.

Master's degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Innovation Design, or closely related discipline. Prior professional experience in product design, engineering design, design consulting, innovation, R&D, or product development. Experience in teaching, technical training, mentoring, or facilitating engineering/design students preferred. Experience in academic institutions, innovation centres, incubators, R&D organisations, or capacity‑building programmes desirable. Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills. Maximum age 45 years with applicable relaxation as per Government of India norms.
